Baggage transport and shipping
In Japan, there is a possibility to send your luggage from the airport to your hotel or from hotel to hotel.
This service can be very useful for those who want to travel ‘light’ without having to carry bulky suitcases.
For example, if I decide to visit Takayama and Kanazawa (leaving from Tokyo and arriving in Kyoto or vice versa), I can send my luggage from my hotel in Tokyo to my hotel in Kyoto and visit the two cities with only a light piece of luggage.
For this service, you can use the Yamato Transport company (the logo represents a cat with a kitten) and the service is called Takkyubin.
This service costs between 1500 and 3000 Yen and does not require a reservation. The convenience is that almost all hotels offer this service, just ask at reception.
The price of the service between Tokyo and Kyoto is 1900 Yen, and your luggage will be delivered the next day. For distant destinations such as Hokkaido it may take 2 days.
However, if you are not staying at a hotel, you can book the service via in-house, go to a Conbini that offers the service or directly to a Kuroneko Yamato counter.
For luggage transport to and from the airport there is the JAL ABC company, while for other transport there is also Sagawa Express or Nittsu.
You can book and pay for baggage transport online via the Yamato website. You can find the link at the bottom of the page.
