How to get to Yokohama

Tokyu Toyoko Line

(40/45 minutes – 280 Yen)

This train leaves from Shibuya Station and takes about 25 minutes to reach Yokohama. The cost of a single ticket is 280 Yen.

As it is a private company, the Japan Rail Pass is NOT valid.

JR Tokaido Line

(25 minutes – 480 Yen from Tokyo and 300 Yen from Shinagawa)

The Tokaido line leaves from Tokyo Station. The train to Yokoham takes about 25 minutes and the ticket costs 470 Yen.

JR Yokosuka Line

(30 minutes – 480 Yen from Tokyo and 300 Yen from Shinagawa)

You can take this train at Tokyo Station and in half an hour you arrive in Yokohama.

JR Shonan Shinjuku Line

(30 minutes – 570 Yen from Shinjuku and 400 Yen from Shibuya)

If you are in the western part of the capital you can take this line. The main stations are Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya.

Another JR train runs between Tokyo Station and Yokohama.

This private company connects Shinagawa to Yokohama in 20 minutes.

Getting around Yokohama

Metro

The Yokohama Metro consists of 3 lines on approximately 57 km of track and 48 stations. Lines 1 and 3 (blue) are on the same route while line 4 (green) has a different route. The price of a single ride ranges from 210 Yen up to 550 Yen. There are day passes at a cost of 740 Yen and bus passes at a cost of 830 Yen.

On the Yokohama metro you can use IC Cards such as Suica and Pasmo, and also get a very small discount on each ride.

Minatomirai 21 Line

This underground line is operated by the Yokohama Minatomirai Railway Company and connects Yokohama Station to the Chinatown area via the Minato Mirai 21 district. Ticket prices range from 190 to 220 Yen. A day ticket costs 460 Yen.

IC Cards such as Suica and Pasmo can also be used on this train.

Bus

Yokohama has an extensive bus network. A single journey costs 220 Yen. On some lines, the price varies according to the distance travelled. A day pass costs 600 Yen.
To take the bus, you have to get on at the front door and pay for the ride immediately with coins or using prepaid cards such as Pasmo or Suica. You get off at the rear door.

Akaikutsu Loop Bus

This bus departs from Sakuragicho station every 15 or 25 minutes and makes a circular trip in one direction to places of interest. A single ride costs 220 Yen, while a day ticket costs 600 Yen.

Yokohama-Minatomirai Pass

This pass allows you to take the train unlimited times between Yokohama Station and Shin-Sugita on the JR Negishi Line and the train on the Yokohama Minatomirai Line. The pass costs 530 Yen and is valid for 1 day.
