Shinkansen and local trains

Kobe is connected to Shin-Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo by the JR Tokaido Shinkansen line. However, the station is Shin-Kobe, from here you can take the underground into the city. Alternatively, you can get off at Shin-Osaka and from there take the local train to Sannomiya, the main station.
The journey from Tokyo is about 3.40 hours long. From Kyoto 53 minutes by direct train and from Osaka about 25 minutes.
From Umeda (Osaka) you can take the train of the private Hanshin or Hankyu company.
From Kyoto you can use the Hankyu company by leaving from Karasuma station and changing at Juso station.

If you have a Kansai Railway Pass, you can use it for private companies to the city and on the Kobe metro lines.
